An erratic Captain Kirk orders the Enterprise into the Romulan Neutral Zone where they are quickly surrounded by three Romulan warships. Kirk and Spock beam aboard one of the Romulan vessels to meet their commander who accuses them of espionage. The attractive Romulan takes an interest in Spock and she sets about wooing him. Spock is apparently prepared to cooperate with their captors and accuses Captain Kirk of having gone insane. In fact, Kirk and Spock are on a special mission and operating under Federation orders.
